Phoenix Non-Public School
Phoenix Non-Public School serves emotionally disturbed students in our Residential, Wraparound, and Foster Care programs, as well as students from Santa Clara and school districts in neighboring counties. All students have been identified as needing Special Education Services. We are staffed to serve children in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Our mission with all our students is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to prepare them academically, socially, emotionally and behaviorally to transition into, and be successful in a public school setting. Our approach in reaching this mission involves creating an individualized program for each student, using a team made up of student's family members, school district personnel, staff from the student's program or treatment services at RCS, and Phoenix School staff.
We offer specialized educational instruction through the guidelines of state mandated regulations concerning a student's Individual Educational Plan, State Standard curriculum requirements and the student's assessed level of functioning. We also provide crisis intervention and counseling, as needed. Our instruction includes the five, core curriculum subjects: Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and PE. We also offer many electives such as Conflict Resolution, Independent Living Skills, Art, Computer Lab, Work Study, and more. We continue to diversify our curriculum and have developed an enrichment program where students experience a multitude of academic and social activities including gardening, cooking, organizing events, fundraising, public speaking, etc. Our teaching staff delivers this curriculum while helping the students work on and modify their problem behaviors at school using a positive incentive program.
Our incentive program involves students earning stars for satisfactory work and appropriate behavior. They can redeem their starts for gift cards from businesses in the community. Students can also earn the privilege to participate in a special activity for a successful week in their educational program. The Student of the Week receives bonus stars for achievement. Individual and classroom incentive programs are also offered.
We want our students to have a safe, healthy and positive school environment and experience, which imparts to them the importance of their education in terms of their future, and the quality of their lives.
