RCS provides practical and informative parenting classes in a safe supportive environment designed to teach effective ways to discipline their children in a positive and loving way, assist in healthy child development and establish supportive networks to reduce isolation and empower parents in order to strengthen family and community connections. RCS offers a variety of family workshops based on research-based curricula, including The Incredible Years BASIC Parenting Program and Survival Skills for Healthy Families. Classes are held throughout the year and are limited to 20 participants. Small classes allow for additional individual attention given by the instructor. The instructors support the needs of each family attending and provide parents with new ideas and techniques that have been proven to work with children. Most classes are held for two hours and are located at various locations around Gilroy. On-site supervision is provided at no charge to families. Classes are available in Spanish or English and separate programs are available to parents of children 0-5 and 6-10. 2008-2009 Family Workshops Schedule Teen Moms Program Young Mothers Program FIRST 5 Program School-Age Program GANAS Program Teen Moms Program: In this program, adolescent mothers learn about personal growth, future planning, health, child development, nutrition, budgeting and career development. The moms are provided with a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where teens come together with others who are experiencing the same situations. The group discussions and activities are focused on the distinct needs of the group. This group helps mothers become more self-sufficient, confident, and self-aware young women. During the school year, this class is available to pregnant or parenting teens attending Mount Madonna Continuation School. Summer classes are held at the RCS campus and are open to all pregnant and parenting teens in the community. Childcare and lunch are provided. Series 1: Tuesdays and Thursdays 1-4pm, June 24th-July 17th Additional classes are held at Mount Madonna Continuation School during school year. Young Moms Program: The Young Mothers Program serves young parents who are at very great risk of becoming homeless due to extremely low or very low income. The three goals of the program are to give participants behavioral skills and knowledge to assist in the healthy development of their children, forge a network of relationships among residents that reduces isolation and provides mutual support, and empower participants with life skills that will assist them in pursuing and achieving personal goals. This program is only available to residents of Sobrato Transitional Housing. The instructors support the needs of each family attending and provide parents with new ideas and techniques that have been proven to work with children. On-site supervision is provided at no charge to families. Classes are available in Spanish or English and separate programs are available to parents of children 6-10. Childcare and a light meal are provided. Series 1: Tuesdays 6:30-8:45pm, September 16th-December 2nd Series 2: Tuesdays 6:30-8:45pm, January 27th-April 14th GANAS Program: RCS family workshops follow The Incredible Years BASIC Parenting Program, providing parents with effective ways to discipline their children in a positive and loving way. The instructors support the needs of each family attending and provide parents with new ideas and techniques that have been proven to work with children. On-site supervision is provided at no charge to families. Classes are available in Spanish or English and separate programs are available to parents of children 0-5 living in the Glen View neighborhood. Childcare and a light meal are provided.
