Wraparound Philosophy
RCS embraces Wraparound care as the philosophical basis for all its
services. Wraparound is a dramatic change from the way behavioral healthcare
has been provided to children and families in the past. Traditional mental
health services often fail to meet the needs of children and families
because they are inflexible and focus on pathology. The child and family
have to fit into the formula or pattern set up by the provider agency.
Wraparound care is individualized to "wrap" services around the unique
needs, values, strengths, and social and racial makeup of children and
families in RCS care.
The involvement of parents or guardians in the behavioral healthcare of
their child is a high priority for RCS. In Wraparound care, active
participation of parents in every level of the process helps build family
cooperation and encourages the family to trust the professionals who are
involved. Listening to families about the needs of their children enables
RCS to provide care that will prevent more serious and more expensive
problems later. The Wraparound care offered by RCS is designed to empower
families and partner with them in the individualized, strength-based care of
their children, thereby transferring skills and knowledge to those families
so that they can carry out their responsibilities for the health and
development of their children.
