Health Services Department
A child's first glimpse of the RCS Health Services usually takes place during a Medical Assessment. Joanne Rodriguez, LVN, or Celia Sigala, RN, reviews the medical packet and meets with the child and assessment team to determine if, and how RCS can best match its services to his or her needs. Their next glimpse is usually through the lens of a Polaroid camera as the child is greeted on admission day. Nursing staff reviews all medical records to be sure we have all the documentation needed so the child can make a smooth and safe transition into RCS care. A medical chart is started, which includes all medical records received. Somehow the details of this process quickly get to be old and boring for the child and he/she is usually edging towards the doorway, eager to move on to something more interesting, like moving into a new room or meeting new friends.
Within a few days of admission every child comes to the RCS Health Services Clinic for a height, weight, and vital signs check. This is more interesting for them because they get to meet Medical Aide, Anita Ramirez, rummage through the miniature Pirate's Treasure Chest, and pick out a treasure or a small treat.
Randall Ramirez, LCSW, is Director of Clinical Quality for Health Center programs.
