Mission
Our mission with our students is to prepare them academically, socially and behaviorally to be successful in a public school setting. Our approach in reaching this mission involves providing a safe and nurturing environment where the student experiences success. This is developed through a team approach. The team consists of the student, parents/guardians, school district personnel, treatment program/service workers, advocates and NPS staff. We offer specialized educational instruction that is developed through the students Individual Educational Plan (IEP), state standard curriculum guidelines and the students assessed level of functioning. We also provide crisis, behavioral and counseling intervention, as needed.
Curriculum
Our instruction includes the five core curriculum subjects, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and P.E. We also offer many electives including Conflict Resolution, Independent Living Skills, Computer Lab, and Work Study. We continue to diversify our curriculum and have developed an enrichment program where students can experience a multitude of academic, social and work related activities. These activities range from gardening, cooking, animal husbandry, organizing program and fundraising events, peer tutoring and public speaking.
Teaching Staff
Our teaching staff delivers this curriculum and facilitates these activities while helping students modify their problematic school behaviors through modeling and positive feedback. We have a positive incentive program that involves students earning points for satisfactory work and positive behaviors. They can exchange their points for cash and use in our school store. Students can also earn awards for student of the week and month. The student of the month gets to enjoy lunch out with the staff of their choice. Individualized and classroom incentives are also developed and offered, as needed.
We want students to have a safe, healthy, positive and successful experience at Phoenix School that imparts to them the importance of education in terms of their future and quality of their lives.
